All Wales Boat Show moves to new £8.3m sailing academy

Motorboat & Yachting: Next year’s All Wales Boat Show will be taking place at Plas Heli, the new £8.3m Welsh National Sailing Academy, it has been confirmed.

The organisers of the All Wales Boat Show have announced a new home for the annual event. After two years at Conwy Marina, the North Wales boating extravaganza will be moving to the new Plas Heli sailing academy.

Built at a cost of £8.3million, the new venue was chosen as it offers more space for this burgeoning event, organisers Wales Watersports International (WWI) said.

Set to run over the weekend of 8-10 May, the 2015 event has received backing from RYA Wales and GJW Insurance. It is hoped that the larger venue can help to stimulate the Welsh boating scene, which currently only makes up 2.4% of the UK boating industry as a whole.

Davina Carey-Evans, managing director at WWI, said: “We believe the show can put down a real marker for the huge potential of the marine sector in Wales and the positive impact it can have on our economy as a whole.”

Last year’s All Wales Boat Show attracted more than 10,000 visitors with boats on display from the likes of Sunseeker, Fairline, Jeanneau and Beneteau.
