Motorboat & Yachting: Is the river Thames the future of commuting in London? The Port of London Authority (PLA) certainly thinks so, after it revealed its vision for the next two decades.

Released this week, the Thames Vision Goals and Priority Actions report reveals that the number of passenger trips taken in the capital could double by 2035.

What’s more, the PLA believes that the total amount of cargo handled by the port could reach a new record high of 60 million tonnes per year within 20 years. This would cut road traffic by 550,000 lorry trips per year.

For this to happen the main navigation channels will need to be improved and safeguarded wharves will need to be reactivated, the report adds.

And the PLA proposes building new piers at Thamesmead, Erith, Greenhithe, Swanscombe, Grays and Tilbury.

Robin Mortimer, chief executive of the PLA, said: “Making the cargo port the biggest it’s ever been and doubling the number of passenger trips on the river are great goals to aim for.

“We can combine this with environmental improvement and drawing more people to the river to enjoy sport and cultural attractions,” he added.

“This is about opening our eyes to what the great River Thames can offer right in the heart of London and the South East.”

Motorboat & Yachting: Ferretti Group dealers Ventura have released details of the Riva model that they will be bringing to the 2016 London Boat Show.

The Ventura stand at the London Boat Show is always very popular, and the Ferretti Group dealer hopes to continue this trend in 2016 with its latest Riva display.

Heading to the Excel Centre for next month’s ten-day event is a unique Riva Aquariva that has been finished in Bentley blue to match the owner’s luxury car.

Built in 2009, but evoking the classic styling that made Riva a worldwide name in the 1950s and 60s, the Bentley-edition Aquariva is up for sale with an asking price of €395,000 (approx £288,000).

Powered by a pair of 380hp Yanmar 6 LY3/UP engines, Bentley Blue is capable of a top speed of 42 knots.

This display will replace the secret auction for a classic Riva that Ventura has run for the past two years.

A spokesperson for Ventura said: “A new Bentley to match this Aquariva is of course readily available should anyone wish to recreate the set, but there’s unlikely ever to be another boat like this!”

Bentley Blue will go on display at the Excel Centre from January 8-17 on Stand A120. Advance tickets to the London Boat Show are on sale now, with prices starting from £10 per adult.
