Yachting Boating World: The New York based Gill Schmid Design has just unveiled its latest superyacht – the 110 metre Halycon. The vessel makes the most of floor to ceiling one-way glass.

Halycon exploits the possibilities of using glass in superyacht design, with floor to ceiling undulating glazing.

Renders from Gill Schmid Design show a use of white and reflective glass, which provides maximum privacy for the owner of the 110 metre superyacht and their guests.

The white, one-way glass is transparent from the inside and opaque looking from the outside.

The white glass panels on the observatory deck above the wheelhouse and on bridge deck above the VIP suits blend in seamlessly with the white superstructure, giving an overall monochromatic effect.

“The idea is to blend superstructure and glazing into one entity,” explained Gill Schmid Design.

Some of the key features of Halycon are the two glass bottomed swimming pools, one on the main deck and one staggered in sections on the upper deck.

They are connected with a waterfall flowing between the two levels, which is framed by a generous rectangular opening in the deck. This creates the effect of terraced aft deck spaces.

This space is further enhanced by the louvered ‘gill’ glass doors on the main deck, creating a deep inside/outside space around the main pool area.

Further features of this unique vessel, besides the expansive and unique outdoor deck spaces, are the large owner suite with his and hers saunas, six guest and two VIP suites.

There are also two hull infinity jacuzzis, a casino, front facing formal dining with panoramic views, a sky lounge and a cocktail bar with panoramic lounge spaces.

A retractable front facing glass facade on the observatory deck also highlights the unique use of glass on board.

The expansive beach club has open-able hull doors offering visual and physical access to the sea. There is also a gymnasium, sauna, plunge pool and massage areas.

The fully equipped tender garage has enough space for two 10 metre tenders, icon aircraft, submarine storage plus multiple toys.

Halycon comes with full helicopter landing on the observatory deck, plus an additional retractable touch and go helicopter landing on the main deck aft between the two jacuzzis.

The superyacht can accommodate 18 guests and 37 crew in generous quarters.

The unveiling of the Halycon project also marks the re-branding of the New York Design studio, which is run by Alistair Gill and Veronika Schmid.

Known previously as Impossible Productions Ink, Gill and Schmid have now combined their names to  create Gill Schmid Design.

Yachting Boating World: With just over two weeks to go before the Southampton Boat Show 2016 kicks off, a site map of the show has been released.

The countdown for this year’s Southampton Boat show has started!
Sunseeker, Spirit Yachts, Ancasta, Beneteau, Jeanneau and Fairline Yachts are just some of the brands showcasing their yachts.

Following unprecedented demand from exhibitors for undercover space, a new show layout has been revealed for 2016.

Ocean Hall and Windward Hall will be merged with an additional 550 square metres of space added to create a new look Ocean Hall for 2016.

Enhancements to the layout will also see Beneteau and Jeanneau move from their historical space on the land to a much bigger display on the marina.

Sunseeker International will showcase its 95 Yacht at this year’s Southampton Boat Show.

The 95 Yacht is as spacious and striking as its successful sister, the 28 Metre Yacht  and it combines a superyacht feel with all the practical advantages of a yacht in this size category.

A standout feature is its unique main deck layout with a special master cabin triplex configuration for even greater flexibility and space from a class above. With the luxurious master stateroom berth on the main deck, a forward staircase leads to a mid-level dressing area and sumptuous en-suite.

The raised pilot house offers greater flexibility contributing to the more expansive main deck layout, remarkable for this size of yacht. Above deck, the spacious flybridge is well equipped with a second helm, bar, optional hot tub and plenty of seating for guests to be entertained in style. As with all Sunseeker’s new models in 2016, the 95 Yacht is based on the classic deep V hull with performance at its heart.
