Stephens Waring Yacht Design unveils first open speedboat

Motorboat & Yachting: American yacht designers Stephens Waring have unveiled their latest speedboat, following a two-year custom build project.

If you want to recreate the glitz and glamour of the 1920s boating scene then there are two ways of going about it: restore a classic, or build your own from scratch.

For their latest project, Stephens Waring Yacht Design worked with an owner keen to do the latter, and the results are simply stunning.

Stella Blue is the result of a two-year design and build collaboration between Stephens Waring and Tumblehome Boatshop. The 23’10” deep-vee hull features mahogany topsides, leather interiors and a fuel-injected V8 for a top speed of 52 knots.

Styled after the classic Gold Cup racers of the 1920s, Stella Blue also features a concealed stern platform, complete with swim ladder, and she will be based on Atateka Lake in upstate New York.

Reuben Smith of Tumblehome Boatshop is very pleased with the finished product, saying: “The boat really works. She’s lively, and nimble, she waits on the driver for every instruction.”

His satisfaction is more than matched by the unnamed owner, who declared himself “the happiest guy in the world” upon delivery.
